People who express love to their family members, friends or strangers in their own unique ways. They do not necessary to have great artistic skills.
An interactive documentary project that collects and shares stories of "artist of love". The main goal of this project is to remind people to realize and appreciate more of the love around them, and encourage more people to become an “artist of love” themselves!
Hello friends! Thank you so much for visiting "Walking in Love 爱的艺术家" project! My name is Xiaoxing Han, I am a documentary filmmaker in Michigan, USA. I am from Ningbo, China.
Two years ago, I went back to China to visit my family. When it was about time for me to leave, I went to my grandma’s home to say goodbye to her. She asked me to wait for a second, and then, brought out 20 pairs of her handmade embroidered shoes to me, and they are all in my size.
When I was so surprised how can my grandma make so many shoes for me in just one year, my mom told me that my grandma has been making shoes for me every day when I was in America. My grandma is 87 years old, it is not easy for her to make shoes any more. For example, to just make the bottom of each shoes, she need to use very thick needle to sew 3 layers together with more than a thousand stiches.
It was at that moment, I realized that my grandma’s handmade shoes are not just something I get to receive every year since I was a baby, it is her unique way to express love to me. And I take this love for granted for so many years.
My grandma said because of her bad eyes, the stiches on the bottom are not lined up straight; the flowers on the shoes are not smooth anymore. However, those imperfect shoes in her eyes are her prefect ways to express love to me. They make me walk in love, without fear, when I am chasing my goals here in America.
In my mind, my grandma is a special kind of artist, she is an artist of love! And I know, my grandma must not be the only artist love in this world. That’s why I started an interactive documentary project called “Walking in Love 爱的艺术家”. I want to find more artists of love in this world and share their stories. I started the project by hosting story sharing events and exhibitions of my grandma's handmade embroidered shoes in different museums.
