An individual who express love to their family members, friends or strangers in their own unique ways. They do not necessarily possess great artistic skills.
An interactive documentary project that collects and shares the stories of "artists of love". The main goal of this project is to remind people take the time to appreciate the love being shared around them, and encourage more people to become an “artist of love” themselves!
Hello friends! Thank you so much for visiting the "Walking in Love 爱的艺术家" project! My name is Xiaoxing Han, I am a documentary filmmaker in Michigan, USA. I am originally from Ningbo, China.
Two years ago, I went back to China to visit my family. When it was about time for me to leave, I went to my grandma’s home to say my farewells. She asked me to wait for a second and then brought out 20 pairs of her handmade embroidered shoes in my size as a parting gift.
I was completely taken aback! How can my grandma make so many shoes for me in just one year? My mother told me that my grandma had been making shoes for me every single day since I had left for America. My grandma is 87 years old, it is not easy for her to make shoes anymore. Just make the bottom of each shoe, she need to use very thick needle to sew 3 layers together with more than a thousand stitches!
It was at that moment, I realized that my grandma’s handmade shoes were not just something I get as a gift each year from her since I was a baby, but they are her unique way to express love to me. And I unfortunately took this love for granted for so many years.
My grandma said because of her bad eyes, the stitches on the bottom are not lined up straight; the flowers on the shoes are not smooth anymore. However, these imperfect shoes in her eyes are her prefect ways to express love to me. They allow me to walk in love, without fear, when I am chasing my dreams here in America.
In my mind, my grandma is a special kind of artist, she is an Artist of Love! I know my grandma must not be the only Artist of Love in this world. That’s why I started this interactive documentary project, “Walking in Love 爱的艺术家”. I want to find more artists of love in this world and share their stories. I started the project by hosting story sharing events and exhibitions of my grandma's handmade embroidered shoes in different museums around the world.
Love makes ordinary people do extraordinary things. Love is a picture composed of countless diverse pieces; those pieces are unique personal experiences and stories from you and me. Please join "Walking in Love" and share your story with the world!
